सातारा : राष्ट्रीय काँग्रेसचे ज्येष्ठ नेते आणि कराड दक्षिण मतदार संघाचे सलग 35 वर्षे नेतृत्व केलेले माजी आमदार विलासकाका पाटील – उंडाळकर (वय 84) यांचे उपचारादरम्यान निधन झाले. साताऱ्यात हॉस्पिटलमध्ये उपचार सुरू असताना त्यांनी अखेरचा श्वास घेतला. तब्बल 7 वेळा कराडमधून आमदार मधून निवडून येण्याचा करिष्मा केला होता.
उंडाळकर यांच्या पार्थिवावर आज (सोमवारी) त्यांच्या कराड तालुक्यातील उंडाळे या गावी अंत्यसंस्कार करण्यात येणार आहेत. त्यांच्या निधनामुळे कराडवर शोककळा पसरली आहे.
विलासराव पाटील हे काँग्रेसच्या विचारधारेशी एकनिष्ठ असलेले नेते होते. कराडचा बालेकिल्ला त्यांनी कायम राखला होता. आघाडी सरकारच्या काळात विलासराव पाटील यांनी कराड दक्षिण मतदारसंघातून आमदार म्हणून नेतृत्व केले. याच काळात त्यांनी सहकार, दुग्धविकास, पशुसंवर्धन, मदत व पुनर्वसन खात्याचे कॅबिनेट मंत्री सुद्धा राहिले होते.
विलासराव पाटील यांनी राज्याच्या सहकार, विधी व न्याय आणि दुग्धविकास विभागाचे मंत्री म्हणून कामकाज पाहिले होते. गेल्या काही दिवसांपासून त्यांच्यावर उपचार सुरू होते.

2014 च्या निवडणुकीत काँग्रेसनं कराड दक्षिणमधून माजी मुख्यमंत्री पृथ्वीराज चव्हाण यांना उमेदवारी दिली होती. त्यामुळं नाराज झालेल्या विलासकाकांनी अपक्ष निवडणूक लढवली होती. त्यात त्यांचा पराभव झाला. मात्र, पराभवानंतरही साताऱ्याच्या राजकारणातील त्यांचं महत्त्व कायम होतं. कालांतरानं त्यांनी स्वत: पुढाकार घेऊन पक्षहितासाठी चव्हाण यांच्याशी जुळवून घेतलं होतं.
